Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the occupier and the manager under the Factories Act?+

The occupier is the person who has ultimate control over the factory (usually the owner/promoter). The manager is responsible for day-to-day operations. Both must be notified to the Inspector of Factories.

Is factory licence renewal automatic?+

No. The licence must be renewed annually by 31 December (or as per state rules) before commencement of the next calendar year.

Does a factory licence cover all states?+

No. Each state issues its own factory licence. If you have manufacturing units in multiple states, separate licences are required in each.
