The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) mandates that every food business operator (FBO) — manufacturer, trader, restaurant, caterer, importer, or e-commerce food seller — obtain the appropriate FSSAI registration or licence before commencing operations. How It Works

Eligibility Check

We determine whether you need Basic Registration (turnover < ₹12 lakh), State Licence (₹12 lakh–₹20 crore), or Central Licence (>₹20 crore or multi-state/import).

Compile identity proof, address proof, premises layout, list of food products, and draft the Food Safety Management System plan.

Portal Filing

Submit application on FoSCoS (Food Safety Compliance System) and pay the prescribed fee.

Inspection & Issuance

Coordinate with the FSSAI inspector for premise inspection; follow up for licence/registration certificate issuance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is FSSAI registration mandatory for home-based food businesses?+

Yes. Even home-based food businesses and cloud kitchens must obtain at least Basic FSSAI Registration.

How long is an FSSAI licence valid?+

FSSAI licences are issued for 1 to 5 years at the applicant's choice (longer validity reduces renewal burden). Renewal must be applied for 30 days before expiry.

Can I sell food online without FSSAI?+

No. E-commerce food sellers (including food sold through Swiggy, Zomato, Amazon) must have a valid FSSAI licence or registration.
